Fleet meeting minutes November 19, 2011

25 members in attendance at the Dudek/Disano residence, the honorable Jim Disano presiding
Meeting called to order at 8:02 PM

2012 Officers – Motion passed

Motion was passed to no longer require an alternating fleet captain from the high perf and low perf  fleets.  Any member can run for fleet captain at any time.

Mike Hill had agreed to become fleet captain this year, however since he has accepted the vice-commodore position for CSA, pending Mike’s agreement, Jim Disano will remain fleet captain for one more year and Josh Doherty will become co-captain.

Secretary; Carlyne Ringle

Treasurer – Brock Truffli

Scribe – Dave Waugh

Christmas Party

The Hills will host the Christmas party, date pending.

Dues

Reminder to pay Brock the $15 yearly dues.

Hobie 16/20 Nationals

Pat, Shirley, Dave L. and Linda discussed their week on RC at Fort Walton Beach

Dave L stated the dates for the Around the Island Race at Fort Walton are June 22-24 and that the race is a lot of fun.

Long Distance Races
Kitsy made a motion that the long distance races not count toward CSA trophies because the handicaps are not fair.  Discussion to change the handicap minutes to make it as fair as possible.  Motion did not pass.

Adult Sail Seminar

Dates are first week of June and this year instructors will be paid $225 for the session.

Hobie Division 10 Regatta

Shirley was approached by Chris Wessels of the Hobie class association and asked that CSA chair a divisional regatta.  This consists of a weekend and he thought we would attract about 50 boats mostly from the Iowa area.  Division 10 is essentially gone and there is no venue for a Midwest regatta in this area.  The fleet expressed a desire to put on this regatta and it appears Shirley and Kitsy will be the regatta chairs.  Shirley will approach CSA and the class association to look at dates and see if this is possible for 2012 or 2013.

Muddy Report

The Muddy hosted 30 boats, 11 of them  A Cats.  Financially we  lost $580.  We were reminded that when we order merchandise from a sponsor to be sure and thank them for their contributions to the Muddy.

Flying Scott Nationals

Felicia asked the cat fleet to provide the manpower to help make lunches for their nationals June 24-29.  Please let her know if you can help.   Contact Ted Beier if you want to be on RC.

Nominations for the fleet traveling trophies:

Contribution:  Dave Waugh, Jim Disano, Mary Bartman, Pat and Felicia

Sportsmanship:  Jon & Penny Pejka, and Latham

Meeting adjourned at 9:35pm...

Fleet meeting minutes March 19, 2011

22 members in attendance at the Paoli residence, the honorable Jim Disano presiding
Meeting called to order at 8:02 PM

Picnic Shelter
Mary Bartman shared estimates on a “non-permanent” picnic shelter, no formal proposal has been brought to the CSA board of directors at this time.
Specifications for shelter: 18x24 feet, good for 3-4 picnic tables; non-permanent indicates that it can be removed if necessary but still secured in with concrete footings; flooring either concrete pavers or a slab/pad - “you don’t want grass in your crack”; facility will not have electricity

Still need to determine: location on the Cat field, drawing or sketched proposal, project timeline, aesthetics/how it will blend into the surroundings, funding, approval from park superintendent

Estimate from Avis lumber was approximately $4174 but may be able to reduce the estimate based on cost for nails (still have roof nails in the barn); Also investigated non-permanent canopy:2 0x30 with steel poles $682 would also need to be anchored down

Joe Leonard motioned a vote to form a committee that will further investigate options, obtain quotes, draft a proposal for the board (including suggestions for funding), and engage discussion with the cabin fleet as they may also enjoy a picnic shelter in the vicinity of their lot
- Committee: Joe Leonard, Mary Bartman, Tom Paoli, Dave Bryant - to reconvene and give a formal proposal by mid summer TBD

Races and Race Duty
Jim to obtain race dates from Rob (please see e-mails from the week of 3/21)
Discussed order of start; High Perf fleet to make group decision before starts

Muddy Waters Regatta
Still need to contact The Holy Marys to do the food
Tom Paoli will order lunches for the regatta - SuperValue or some other sandwhich catering for the lunches (Mary will ask SuperValue)
Joe & Mary Leonard for trophies
(Dave Wahl (sp?) volunteered to go-chair 2012; Jim Disano co-chair)

Other Reports
Strawberry Regatta weekend of Sept 9 - 11
Sept 9 with a welcome aboard happy hour, all day Saturday and Sunday planning on 5 races: 3 races on Saturday and 2 on Sunday; inviting women’s sailing groups from all over the country, with attendees from Texas

Mary B.  has a sail repair sewing machine if anyone needs a patch.

Discussion of growing fleet membership; many new members are walk-ins; Dave Wahl is volunteering himself to be a race “hor” (which I think stands for helpful on-board racer) for anyone interested in learning how to race: “Dave Wahl, Race Horse

Jim announced that Holly is engaged to Charlie from Pensacola. And Pat's birthday is March 20!.

Meeting adjourned at 9:02pm...

See you all at the club in a few weeks!

Fleet meeting minutes February 2011

Cat Fleet 123: February 19, Meeting was held at Bryan & Darcy Gill's residence

Meeting called to order at 7:45ish PM; approximately 20 members present, Jim Disano presiding...

Reading of the previous meeting minutes from November: Discussed Regatta Chair for Muddy Waters*.  Josh Doherty will take care of drinks for Muddy Waters.  Kitsy's Spec Boat.  Long-distance race - agreed to count them as part of the club series

Treasurer's report (Brock Tuffli): $6,049.00 in the account - taking dues, muddy water 250 resulting in a  +$164 surplus.  Participation from the Great Lakes A-Cat/Muddy waters events this past year helped our budget (Thanks Mike and Joe).  Friendly reminder to have your dues paid $15 per year and will need to be paid either previous year/current year to be a voting member.

Felicia has agreed to do racing committee on Friday of Great Lakes

Discussion of some kind of picnic-like shelter for the Cat Field
Mary Bartman has volunteered to organize the building of the Cat Field... Details and cost of a 28X20 shelter on the cat field
  • Spot yet to be determined (spoke to the superintendent and getting a quote from a local lumber company)
  • Discussed who should pay?  Fleet or Club or combination?
  • Determined fleet had ample sweat equity to contribute toward a build
  • Still to be determined: Who has to approve the building? - Club Board, the Park and the Corps will need to approve
  • Mary will do the research and we'll have something to vote on.
  • Cat fleet is in favor of pursuing research

Finding a Regatta Chairman for Muddy Waters/Great Lakes A Cat Championship

  • Joe Leonard will be supporting the Great Lakes A Cat
  • Jim Disano will chair Muddy Waters
Fleet Captain Meeting and Chair meeting is next week to discuss race dates and committee boat (Mike Hill will be attending the Fleet Captain meeting next week)

Race committee assignments needed for the next season
  • Joe Leonard - August for race committee and also Bryan Gill, Brock Tuffli, Josh Doherty for August; Sue Dudek offered to take another month
Schedule for the races; 2 in the afternoon in the summer.  Discussion around the starting order with the slow boats start first (to be proposed at the Captains Meeting)
  • Ask to try two separate courses - long course and a short course?
  • Keep the finish short?
  • Set the long A mark farther apart or the short mark shorter to finish the laps
  • Just for the summer series because they're back-to-back races
Discussion about the Leukemia cup; Tradition states that the Cats have assisted with cash for breakfast.  Last year we gave $200 and received $45 back (note: Terri Crosby organized the breakfast last year)  Motion to vote to donate up to $200.  Voted yes to donate up to $200

Other business: Karen: Numbers of cat fleet members - 5 full races previously, we pointed out the number of sailors did not equate to the number of boats; Will also effect the number of race committee (minimum of 7 individuals)

Discussion of other individuals who are around but not participating...Those who have paid  should try to encourage folks not actively participating to attend the meetings, race, etc.  Also need to get those who may have newly joined... any ideas? (open ended question)

Strawberry Regatta for breast cancer or ovarian cancer; This year: Sept 10 & 11; Please look into your networks and try to pull some boats from out of town to participate

Next meeting March 19th; Reminder to pay your 2011 fleet dues

Meeting was adjourned around 8:45ish PM (again, end time questionable due to lack of gavel)
