Fleet meeting minutes November 2010

Fleet 123 November 13, 2010 meeting held at Shirley Allen’s home.

Meeting was called to order (sort of) at 7:30 pm.  Twenty or so raucous members were present, as well as, dogs and one friendly youngster. No not you Dave Waugh, although you are friendly.

  • Minutes of the March 20, 2010 meeting were read in extreme shortened form. An update from Joe Leonard concerning the Fleet donation to the Junior team “On to Ecuador” campaign: the team successfully achieved their donation goal and therefore returned the check of $300 the fleet had donated.
  • Treasurer Brock Tuffli sent his report via email to Fleet Capt Shirley who read the highlights. Checkbook balance is $6,124.99. Muddy Waters MADE money! 250 dollars into the coffers.
  • Election of Officers: High PHRF (performance handicap racing fleet) co-captain Jim Disano is now the primary fleet captain. Mike Hill is the Low PHRF-captain. Brock Tuffli remains the treasurer. Latham Souther remains the Score Keeper. New member Carlyne Ringle has graciously agreed to be the secretary, and Dave Waugh says he’s not in charge but will write the Marks Cat Tales articles.

  • Hosting the Famous Fleet Christmas Party: Mike and Kristin Hill for the second year in a row. Tentative date is December 18th.

  • Mary Bartman let the fleet know long time member Bob Levin passed away the morning of November 13th.
  • Discussion of 2010 long distance club races and scoring impact to fleet member qualifying was discussed.
  • Further discussions concerning the 2011 race schedule was tabled until fleet captains attend the annual Fleet Captains meeting held in February. The catamaran fleet is unique in that both captains usually attend this meeting.
  • Fleet owned and maintained cat tracks are due for an overhaul and Bob Monaghan has agreed to take on this project. One of the cat tracks has cradles that will need fiberglass repair; others need tire and cord maintenance.

• Commode’s report to Fleet Captains: CSA-sailing.org website has been launched.
More emphasis on advertising the club to local media, partnering with St. Louis Sailing in a plan to allow certified people to rent a boat parked at CSA, fleets are urged to sponsor activities that encourage more social events among fleet members, a more in-depth crew list posted on line.

• Two open houses this year. May 22 (no pre-registration or food), July 3 (with the Luau)

• Betty Struckhoff and the committee for building membership and participation asked for several cat sailors to take out the winners of a Scott Air Force base Open House drawing. Dave Bryant, Bryan Gill have volunteered with their Hobie 18’s. Bryan’s dad, Bob Gill has committed with his E-Scow.

• May 23 is Race Clinic to help understand racing and starts. Please view on-line or Marks information.

• New signage will be installed on the cat field to indicate NO PARKING zones. PVC posts will be sunk at the perimeter of each row. Vertical signs will then be inserted. No Parking of vehicles between boat parking area and the water. Work will take place during the Spring Work Day April 10th.

• Every vote counts when it comes to electing Brock Tuffli to the CSA Board, so a phone tree calling members at large will be initiated by Shirley. The volunteers will be will assigned whom will call.

• Dave Bryant spoke about Muddy Waters Regatta (Oct 2-3). He is pursuing high profile companies for donations of promotional items, gift certificates, and high-end merchandise.

Fleet meeting minutes February 2010

Feb 20, 2010 Fleet meeting held at Al Bromley's home.

Meeting was called to order at 7:00pm. Twenty members were present.
Minutes from the November 09 mtg were read.
Treasure's report by Brock Tuffli. Balance $6000.00
Several people paid dues for the 2010 year, which begins May and runs through May of 2011.
(Last year the fleet was down $100.00) 
 
Race Duty dates for 2010 for the fleet:
May 9, June 13, August 15, September 5, October 10.
The Sept 5 race does not require a PRO as it's a long distance, alternative race event. Two whalers to set marks. More detailed information will follow in the Marks. Rob Preston (Ted Beier) is Race Committee head for this and several other alternative race events, such as a May race clinic similar to the one held last year and mornings during July-August as practice race starts. 
Latham called dibs on the Sept 5 event.
All other dates are open for PRO's to claim.
 
Leukemia Cup long distance race was discussed and agreed upon to request courses be set for both Sat and Sun. Sunday would be a shortened course to allow for scoring and awards. Fleet members are encouraged to notify the chairman (Rick Bernstein) of this request.  Shirley will contact Rick in behalf of the fleet.
 
Financial support for the St. Louis Area Junior Lightning Team Youth Worlds was discussed. Fleet 123 will be sending out a ballot to paid 2009 and 2010 fleet members to vote on a donation of $300 to the team of Caleb Leonard, Ian Moriarty, and Bryan Burke. A blind vote is preferred and will be sent to the fleet captain, Shirley Allen for tabulation. 
 
Nominations to the open position on the Board of Directors was discussed. An opening has occurred because Tom Pinkle has retired from his permanent position which was filled by Jerry DeWille.  In a vote by those present, Brock Tuffli was nominated to run for the BOD.
 
Saint Louis Sailing will have a boat at CSA for pre-qualified individuals to rent.
 
Visitor's Day is renamed as Open House. May 22nd is the first event, no food will be supplied, no pre-registration required. The second Open House is on July 3, the Luau. More to come in the Marks.
 
Banquet pros and cons were discussed to provide feedback to Jean Bordes.
 
Whale-of-a-Sail chairman is David Crosby.
 
Meeting was adjourned at 9:00pm.
