Fleet meeting minutes November 2007

Minutes for the November, 2007 Catamaran Fleet Meeting

Minutes from the November 17, 2007 meeting

Sue Dudek called the meeting at her home.  Twenty-three members were present.

Brock gave the treasurer’s report of about $7,000.  We spent $900 more than we took in last year.  It was an expensive year in the way of donations and we lost money on the Muddy.

Discussion for clarification on whom is allowed to vote on fleet decisions.  The original decision passed was: Any issue regarding racing would be a one vote per boat, but any other issue would be voted on by any fleet dues paying member.  It was amended to allow a spouse to vote, if the family was paying a second fleet membership for a second boat, i.e. each dues paying family member could vote representing their individual boat.

CSA is planting trees as many of ours have died due to the flooding of past years.  Mike Hill will research trees and decide the best tree for the cat field.  A motion was made, seconded, and passed to allot $200 to spend on a tree.

Election of officers for the 2008 season.  A motion was made, seconded and passed to elect Karen Pauls as the high-perf fleet captain.  Congratulations Karen!  Joe Leonard will continue as low-perf fleet captain, Shirley Allen as secretary and Holly Conklin as fleet scribe.  Joe and Holly, although not present, had agreed to this before the meeting.

Junior Sailing Donations – committee Report from Mike, Pat, Mary and Dave Bryant

Junior Requirements -  Limited to juniors who have not reached the age of 21 by the day of the event.  The skipper had attended at least one year of sail camp.  Both skipper and crew must be under the age of 21.

Conditions of Our Treasurery  - Our funds can not drop below $2000.   Starting with half of our surplus treasurery of $2500  ($7,000 - $2000 = $5000 X 50% = $2500), as seed money, we will add half of our surplus each year, if there is any, into a junior fund.

Contribution – Junior must have completed, in some capacity, something to CSA, such as work hours, special projects.

What We Cover – If they are sailing a Cat Nationals or a Junior Cat Championship, we will cover the entry fee. We will also cover 50% of the charter fee, not over $500 or if no boat is needed $300 for trip expenses. This will be given to them after the event in the form of reimbursements.  Other requests can be made but require a vote by the fleet to be funded.  A written proposal will be emailed to fleet members and voted on later.  Thanks to the committee for putting this together.

Muddy Waters 2008 - The date of Muddy coincides with the Hobie 14 Nationals.  Much discussion on the pros and cons of giving up our date for this year.  Motion made, seconded and passed that we investigate the availability of new dates and wait with making a decision until we see the new dates.  Latham will get a list of available dates from 2008 Commodore and email them to us.  Discussion and voting can follow via email.  We tabled finding a regatta chairman until later.

Learn to Sail Day for Cats – Last year we had a good return for the effort, with 2 boats joining out of the 7-8 people that attended.  We tabled finding someone to run this for next year.

Future Meetings: December Meeting – Pat O'Donnell

                  February Meeting – Paoli

                  March Meeting – Hill.

The CSA Board has asked fleet members to discuss the new proposed board policies and have fleet captains report any issues or suggestions at a special fleet captains' meeting to be scheduled later.  Sue will send an e-mail regarding the Board’s proposal of dropping 7 race dates and the addition of another race on race days, as well as suggestions for how to use the non-race days to promote the club and participation.   Motion was made, seconded and passed that we table accepting the board decisions as they were presented at this time.

Meeting adjourned 10:10.

Respectfully submitted by

Shirley Allen

Fleet secretary

Fleet meeting minutes March 2007

Minutes for the March 24, 2007 Open Catamaran Meeting.

Sue Dudek called the meeting to order at the home of Shirley Allen at 8:00 and 27 people were present.

Race committee dates are set for the cats and we already have PRO in place and some workers:

5-20  Stahl  -  Latham, Mike O’Malley, Glenn and Mary Jane

6-17  Stahl  - Mary Jane, Dave Bryant

7-22  Hill  -  Karen

8.26  Paoli  - Leimback, Kitsy, Brock, Mary and Joe Leonard

10-7  Taylor  -  Shara

Ian Schillebeeckx and Ian Moriarty have requested $500 to help them pay for expenses to sail the US Youth Multihull Championship in California.  We passed a motion to donate that amount.

Brock gave the treasurers report of $8,000. and stated that 25 people have paid their dues.

At the February meeting we discussed having a plan in place for dealing with donations that are requested over the summer when we don’t have regular meetings.  A committee was formed (Mike Hill, Pat, Mary Leonard and Dave Bryant) to put a plan in place and put a cap on the spending.

There was a long discussion on how to score out of town regattas and race duty days in order to qualify for a series.  The new plan was passed and will be spelled out on the Open Cat website.

Joe Leonard is still collecting donation for the Opti building, which is being matched by a mysterious benefactor.

We discussed Tobi’s handout on pairing up with the CJSA team (8 young sailors).  We chose 6-2-07, which is a Hare and Hound race and work with them on that date.

There was a long discussion on the “one vote per boat” method of voting on fleet issues.  It was passed that any issue regarding racing would be a one vote per boat, but any other issue would be voting on by any fleet dues paying member.

Dave Waugh led a discussion regarding increasing membership.  That committee decided to have a novice training day involving putting sailors without boats on our boat during the Summer Sail-stice event. We hope to find these potential new sailors at Visitors’ Day.   It was decided to put a $10 charge on this so we don’t have the situation, in which they say they are coming, and then didn’t show.  The committee, of which Dave Waugh is not in charge, will continue planning.

Members were reminded to have IL registrations and proof of insurance at the gate when they bring their boats.

A motion was passed to spend $125 each on an inscribed perpetual trophy for high and low perf fleets.  Joe Leonard will take care of this.  We will also provide a new sportsmanship; contribution and heavy hull trophy as the old ones are filled.  The filled ones will be hung in the OB.

Dave Bryant invited us to look over the new CSA website.

Old Business:

Denny Taylor will spend $200 on tools for the fleet box.

Shirley Allen will contact Tom Paoli about the lawnmower shed that had been discussed at an earlier meeting.

Respectfully,

Shirley Allen

Adult Sail Camp on June 20, 21, & 22.  Is being organized by Dave L.  The following people have volunteered to help on H 18’s.  Kitsy, Dave Waugh, Taylors and Shirley.

The Blessing of the Fleet will occur on 5-19 and as Jan Wilson was not at the meeting, there was no discussion on what our part will be.  It will include a Taste of Carlyle and they expect 1500 people.

Visitor’s Day is being organized by Pat.  Please email her to offer boat rides.  The following have already volunteered Sue, Mike, Dave L., and Taylors’.

A motion was passed to elect Joe Leonard as Co-Captain for 2007.

Ted Beier is putting on a PRO seminar in April.  We need to have more people take the class.  The following volunteered Glenn, Sue, Denny, Joe K., Mike, and Dave S.

The rest of the agenda was tabled until the next meeting.
